Robert Patterson

General Manager Engineering Construction

Robert has over 30 years’ experience in the tank construction industry. Robert joined the Saunders team as an engineering cadet in 1980 and hasn’t looked back since. During his career at Saunders Robert has held numerous position within the organisation. Initially he worked in the engineering department through his early years. He was then moved into the position of workshop manager and then was moved into a project manager’s position delivering key projects to our customers around the country. Since the early 2000’s Robert has held the position of Operations manager within the organisation. Robert has a Certificate of Mechanical Engineering and Contracts Management.


Ian Mcloughlin

General Manager Facility Maintenance

Ian joined Saunders in 2007 as a Project Engineer. Initially site based on a number of our larger projects such as the Sydney Water Pumping Station and Elevated Reservoir in Minchinbury, NSW, where Saunders acted as head contractor, as well as Vopak’s Port Botany Terminal Expansion. Ian then progressed to a project management role, successfully delivering a number of tank installation projects around the country.

In January 2013 Ian was promoted to the Senior Projects Manager position where he was responsible for delivery of all fixed price construction projects. In July 2015 Ian was promoted to the position of General Manager of Facility Maintenance and is currently responsible for the Facility Maintenance business unit.

Ian has a Bachelor of Engineering degree from Dublin Institute of Technology, is a member of the Australian Institute of Project Management, has a Graduate Certificate of Business and Commerce from the Western Sydney University and an Executive MBA from the University of Technology Sydney.


David Griffiths

General Manager Commercial

David joined Saunders in 2015, bringing 30 years of experience across the industry and infrastructure sectors.  David has held roles encompassing general management, project management, sales and business development.  He has held senior roles in organisations ranging from start-ups to global leading companies. David has extensive experience working in a wide range of countries and has an excellent track record in helping Australian companies grow their international business. David holds a BSc in Chemical Engineering and a Masters of Project Management, he is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Rudy Sheriff

Chief Financial Officer

Rudy has over fifteen years of experience in leading financial operations with complex  Resources, Infrastructure, Rail and Roads portfolios for large matrix structured companies within the Engineering Services industry. During this time he has gained extensive experience across a wide range of finance functions including; corporate finance (FP&A), commercial management, project accounting, project systems, budgeting, forecasting, strategic planning, risk management, treasury, internal controls, and reporting functions.

Since 2007 Rudy has held Executive Finance leadership roles being accountable for businesses up to $550m. He recently held the role of Divisional Finance Manager at Ventia’s Asset and Infrastructure business where he was a member of the Executive team managing the integration of the legacy Leighton Services and Thiess Services businesses. Prior to this Rudy was General Manager Finance of UGL’s Resources where he partnered the Executive Leadership team in successfully implementing a three-year strategic plan which transformed the business from a WA Construction business to a sustainable national leader in Asset Management and Maintenance services. Rudy has also held senior commercial and executive finance roles at Leighton Contractors (CPB) and Transfield (Broadspectrum).

Rudy holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Southern Queensland and is a member of the CPA Australia.


Yong Wang

Engineering Manager

Yong joined the Saunders team in 2002 as a Senior Design Engineer.  He brought with him a wealth of knowledge from the petrochemical industry having previously worked for Chart Australia in the design of Cryogenic storage vessels and also for BOC in the design of specialist gas plant equipment.  Since joining Saunders Yong has progressed through the ranks to become our Engineering Manager.  Yong has extensive knowledge across all maintenance and new build tank projects.  Yong completed his Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering at Shanghai Jio-Tong University and also has a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Western Sydney.  Yong is also a professional member of The Institution of Engineers in Australia.


Jorge Alarco

Senior Design Manager

A recent addition to the Saunders team, Jorge is a professionally qualified Mechanical Engineer with nineteen years experience in Australia and thirteen years experience overseas.  He has proven success delivering fuel terminals, gas power plants, hydrocarbon, chemical and mining projects.  Jorge’s experience enables us to offer our clients EPC projects from FEED, detail design, project execution and commissioning.  Jorge is a professional member of The Institution of Engineers in Australia.  Member Professional Engineer of The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) in United States.  Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ).
