The Project

Design and construction of new acid tank at the Goro Nickel Plant by CMI Services in late 2017.

Located in Southern New Caledonia and owned by Brazilian company Vale, the Goro Nickel Plant commenced production in 2010 and is one of the largest hydrometallurgical process plants ever constructed; with a design capacity estimated at 60,000 tonnes of nickel annually.

Scope:

  • The project commenced in December 2017
  • Design, manufacture, construction and hydrotesting of a 32m diameter x 16m high acid tank
  • The works continue to progress with the on-site erection of strake 3 taking place in early June 2018 and minor fabrication works occurring at Saunders extensive workshop in New South Wales
  • The project was undertaken with off-site fabrication component of the work at Saunders Condell Park workshop utilising our specialised heavy plate facility for the thicker than usual plate required for acid service. The on-site construction was at the Goro site
